Key Points:
  • On-brand without sticking strictly to a template
  • Highlights the preservation of nature
  • Highlights the human element
  • Contains accurate images, with limited access to custom product images
Description:

In most cases, the brochure designs within corporate marketing departments follow templates to create a common look and speed up the process. However, this brochure was not designed to be a product brochure and didn’t fit the mold of other brochure types within the company. For these reasons, it was decided that this brochure could break out of the template and have a custom design that fit within the overall brand standards.

The product itself is a chemical derived from polymers, not a bio-based source. It was important to avoid imagery that suggested it was. However, the content of the brochure focuses on the recyclability of plastics, which is what the product is used for. This dictated a nature theme without specifically calling out a material used to product bio-based chemicals.

Focusing on the human factor was important as well. With these two elements in mind, the imagery was designed to focus on human interaction with end-use products and utilize images of nature that provided texture and color rather than photos of specific subjects within nature.

Lastly, the product managers wanted to show the actual products or types of products that could be created using this chemical. Given the nature of the B2B business, photos, or even company names, of end-user products are often not available. In some cases, images are available, but all labels and branding needs to be removed. In this case, a stock image, a custom photo, and a photoshopped product image were used to represent each of the use cases.
