Manufacturing plants commonly focus heavily on safety. For Kraton Corporation, safety is one of several key initiatives that manufacturing plants are graded on. Each of the 15+ plants around the world is held to the highest standards. To help incentivize employees to remain vigilant and keep Health, Safety, Environment, and Security in mind during their day-to-day, Kraton created an award system, awarding plants with limited or no incidents.

Under this system, plants are awarded a variety of incentives, and many of them are branded. The HSES logo was created to add to apparel, banners, posters, etc. to help show appreciation and recognition of a plant’s team of employees succeeding or exceeding their HSES goals for the year. The prompt allowed me to use any color scheme and fonts I would like, but it is important to note that the prompt did not come from within the MarCom team.

I wanted the logo to represent the acronym, providing a regular reminder of the initiatives while also incorporating the company colors, fonts, and/or iconography to help keep the logo tied to existing branding. Working with subtle imagery, I incorporated iconography representing each word within the acronym. I focused on precision and clarity, making sure the acronym was still very readable from a distance and at smaller sizes. Two different award types are available (gold and silver), so I created a variety of versions of the logo that included the different award levels and a version that incorporated the primary company logo, per the request of the stakeholder. The colors used are also derivatives of the standard corporate color palette. The blue is the same as the primary logo, and the yellow is one of the accent colors provided in the brand style guide. I also incorporated the Kraton triangle to further tie the logo into the corporate branding.
